L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2013
L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival seems to arrive every year in a frenetic whir of sassy models and designer threads, providing one giant fashion feast for the city’s stylish to devour.
It’s the perfect opportunity to get dolled up, wear bright lipstick and promise to make good use of the freebies found on your seat (…this year Stu will be dying his hair “Julia Gillard” red). Celebs, ex-Premiers and bloggers fill the rows, tweeting their thumbs red-raw throughout each runway show, while the organisers and eager volunteers circle with important-looking clipboards and nerve concealing smiles.
While many of the better known designers like Sass and Bide and Alannah Hill are old hands at the catwalk, the festival also brings emerging talent to the spotlight, with university graduates and labels such as Rodeo Show and Búl showing the crowds what they’re made of. The music is as loud as the designers are proud and as girls stumble out into the cool night air in blister-popping heels you can almost hear the countdown to next year begin.
